Game Scene Sprint Review 1

During this sprint, I was only able to accomplish a few things. However, now that my group has formed out a better plan for the future, I am confident I will be successful in the future. I was able to create two models for this sprint, as well as get the basic plans laid out fore the camp. The first model I created was a flashlight for use by the player. I debated on whether to make the flashlight a higher poly count than other objects since the player would be holding it, meaning they would be looking at it more often. However, I decided to begin with a low-poly model, knowing that I can add more detail to either the model itself, or a high poly mesh for baking. I also UV'd the model, immediately after, which wasn't too difficult. The other model I was able to create was this modular fence model. The plan is to add a wooden log texture to the model, which is why the cylinders have a sort of odd shape to them. Eventually, I plan to combine them into one object, then place the ...

This week, my focus was on finishing the buildings, getting them UV'd and textured, then bringing them to Unity. I ran into a bit of a wall at the beginning of this process, since I realized I forgot to do a few key things while modeling to speed up the UVing process. I planned to have many duplicated objects on the buildings, such as the windows and bricks pictured below. I intended to use the tiling method of UVing for this process, meaning I would move the duplicated UVs one grid space to the right, and they would use the same texture as the originals, without cluttering the UV space with UV shells. Unfortunately, I forgot to UV the originals, so I was forced to delete much progress and redo it. Luckily, I am very familiar with this workflow, and was able to catch up. This week was the first week of actual modeling, and I spent it testing different methods/styles of designing my buildings for my apocalypse scene. First I had to set my project folder, set my measurements to feet, and generally prepare Maya for the project. After this, I began going over my reference material and attempting recreations, to no avail. Although I could create something somewhat close to my original vision, I was in need of help. After some time, I found a video on Youtube which used python to create their buildings, and although I didn't use this method, there were a few other techniques in the video which were incredibly helpful, and assisted me in creating the picture you see below. I still need to create the fire escape on the building on the right and add a bit more detail to both buildings, but so far they are fitting my vision.
