493 Senior Portfolio

For my senior portfolio project, I have decided I wish to make a 3D scene of an apocalyptic camp set in a steampunk world. I have attempted an apocalyptic theme before, and created a few props for CAGD 320 meant to be used in a camp like this alongside the VW Bus assignment. My goal is to finish the original vision for the camp I thought of back in CAGD 320. The models will be created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and

Above, you can seer what I was able to accomplish for my original assignment. I have some props, but didn't allocate time to adding wear to the vehicle. I don't want to use the vehicle in my assignment, as I believe it would be far too time consuming and out of my scope.

Here, you can see some art I found which captures my vision well. I want to create just a few buildings, many different props to lay around the scene, and I want to have a campfire as the centerpiece.

  • Timeline:
    • Week 1 and 2:
      • Introduce my project.
      • Collect references for props/buildings
      • Export out props from 320 project, and into a new unity scene for use later.
    • Week 3 and 4:
      • Begin modeling/UVing buildings
        • The scene should be in the middle of the street between two buildings
        • This is priority over props to place them in Unity ASAP
      • Begin Texturing Buildings
    • Week 5 and 6:
      • Finish modeling/UVing buildings
      • Bring buildings into unity
      • Begin modeling/UVing props
        • Not certain of exactly how many I'll need, but critiques will help
      • Texture props if possible
    • Week 7 and 8:
      • Revisit scope based on progress achieved
        • Adjust scope as needed.
      • Continue Modeling/UVing Props
        • Apply textures to models in Substance Painter.
    • Week 9 and 10:
      • Continue Modeling/UVing incomplete props
      • Begin constructing scene in Unity
      • Begin testing lighting for the campfire, and the dark skies of the scene
    • Week 11 and 12:
      • If there's time:
        • Work on fabric models and textures, similar to the concept art
        • Would like to build multiple tents, or similar objects
    • Week 13 and 14:
      • Finish working on any remaining tasks.
      • Organize Unity Scene, and other related project files
      • Finalize lighting, post-processing, and other Unity functions for the scene
    • Week 15 and 16:
      • Record a video in the scene showing the details
      • Take some screenshots for portfolio
      • Present to the class.
