For this assignment, we are being tasked with creating a full interior scene in an old west setting. I have been trying to flesh out my saloon for the past week, or at least set myself up to do so. I decided to attempt to create a board, and begun work on the early stages of mapping out how I would create planks for the floor this week. I have included below the concept art I decided on for this project, which I found online while searching for pictures of saloon interiors.
My first major setback this week was a realization I had while watching old tutorial videos. I realized that I had not checked with human models to see if I was creating on the correct scale. And sure enough, when imported, the human model was much, much too large for the scene. the torso ended up where the roof is, and I realized I needed to fix that issue first. Unfortunately, this took some time, and it wasn't until I discovered how to change the scale tool that everything became clear.
My other main goal this week was modeling and texturing the floor boards on the first floor. I switched the floorboard direction on accident, but have decided to keep my new change, since I personally enjoy the aesthetic. Above, you can see the ID model I decided to use for a floorboard. I decided to keep them very simple, since my polygon count is already quite high. I tried initially to make an entire floor, then UV and texture, but that method caused more problems than it solved. Instead, I decided to attempt to create one plank, then UV and texture, then copy and manipulate to create the effect of randomness.
