Charcuterie Board Assignment Post

For this post, I will be discussing my process of working on the Charcuterie board project. We were given a set of models to represent a charcuterie board, and instructed to name the individual components that made up the models, UV the models to prepare for texturing, then texture the models using substance painter and create a Micro scene. This also means creating a few models myself, which I also name, UV, and texture. Then, I render the entire scene in Maya, and submit the entire package. Below, you can see my finished product.

This project is my biggest regret in this class, since I allocated essentially no time to the assignment until the weekend it was due. As you can see, the image is not very well lit, and the items do not look right at all. I decided to skip over the glass texture when I couldn't figure out how to properly create it, and I was forced to paint the items in the bowl yellow since the UV maps were rushed and conflicting with another item. When I painted the other item, it would also leave a splotch of paint on the vegetables in the bowl. This project was when I realized I needed to learn more about substance painter, and it was also after this project I realized I should be rendering in Unity, since I am in the game development side of my major. One of the major tasks we had to complete was to retopologize a high poly acorn, which essentially means to make a low poly version that is ready to be textured. The process was fun, although it was quite frustrating to realize halfway through that I had a massive spiraling edge loop, and had to delete a lot of progress.
