Sci Fi Assignment

For this post, I will be discussing my process of working on the Sci Fi project We were given a crate model and a TIE Interceptor model in Autodesk Maya 2020, and were instructed to name the individual components that made up the models, UV the models to prepare for texturing, then texture the models using substance painter and create a Micro scene. Then, I render the entire scene in unity, and submit the entire package. Below, you can see my finished product.

This project proposed an interesting challenge, since the overall crate received tutorials which made the process easier, the TIE Interceptor did not. The TIE Interceptor was the first time we were given a complex model and told to name, UV, and texture, then create a scene with it. Unfortunately, I did not dedicate enough time to this project. I had underestimated the size of the assignment, and after spending some time naming components for later UVing, I decided to put off UVing the ship until the weekend the assignment was due. While UVing the ship didn't take too long, I wasn't nearly experienced enough with substance painter to complete the project on this schedule. I also had forgotten to freeze my transformations for the right wing after duplicating and flipping, so my wing was transparent in the scene. From this, I learned that I need to consider the entire process of whatever assignment I am working on to properly allot work time.
